This course provides the training required to competently and safely utilize breathing gases containing helium for dives that require staged decompression to a maximum depth of 330fsw/100msw while utilizing nitrox mixtures and oxygen during decompression. The goal of this course is to instruct divers in the benefits, hazards and proper procedures for utilizing custom Trimix mixtures as breathing gases.
Each student must provide double tank bottom cylinders with a minimum capacity of 142 cubic feet, a travel mix cylinder with a minimum volume of 80 cubic feet and an oxygen clean decompression mix cylinder with a minimum volume of 40 cubic feet. Multiple double tanks and travel mix cylinders are helpful, but not required. A trimix computer and bottom timer/depth gauge or redundant bottom timer/depth gauges are required along with slates sufficient for noting the total dive schedule. The instructor will provide the use of Trimix analyzer.
The Trimix Course requires four dives and a minimum of three or four dives for completion. Heavy emphasis is placed on dive planning using appropriate gas mixtures and volumes for the planned dives and accurate dive execution according to the dive plan established. Curriculum also includes class sessions, gear configuration, open water drills and a limited penetration to practice oxygen and decompression cylinder pickups and drop-offs.
Prerequisites: A minimum of 18 years of age, certification as TDI extended Range Diver or TDI Entry Level Trimix Diver (or equivalent) and a minimum of 100 logged dives.
Prices: Private $1,200; 2or 3 student $1,000 per student.
The above course fees do not include certification card, admission fees (where applicable), books or gases.
Rental equipment is available if necessary. However, it is recommended that you own all your own gear, like regulators, backplate, harness, wings (or tech BCD), but tanks can be rented. Other required gear is a reel with at least 200 feet of line, possibly a 50+ lb. lift bag, and a 7 foot hose on one of your regulators.
Certification: TDI
